Douglas Cycles in Cork, Closed down?!

I passed by Douglas Cycles on the bus around an hour ago, and the whole place had been gutted out, no more bikes in there from what I can gather.

Anyone know what the story is?? Is it closed down for good, or is it being done up etc?

    Cheers,

    Rory

Ah thought that, might pop down for a look. In the market for mudguards (prob raceblades) for my Focus Cayo after getting drenched recently.

I just figured out why your afriad he'll close.... note read above.... here's a translation :D

Might pop down to compare prices, and check my blades will fit, before I go to wiggle and order them, just like I did my wicke focus Cayo after my butt got drenched... oh while I'm there I'll sort out some mew shorts sizing as wiggle has a sale. :D

They had opened up a place in the Dosco industrial estate now that's gone too, are they gone altogether now?

I got in contact with them on Facebook, swung by their shop a few days later...nothing. Texted the number they gave me and got a "YOU HAVE THE WRONG NUMBER" reply ( in capitals).

Decided not to drop my wheels in for repair after that.

They are currently with Edge Sports next to Smyths Toys at Kinsale Road roundabout. Impressive shop, nice welcome, but I'm dreading the report back from Mavic ( which isn't the fault of The Edge).

Impressive shop except for the prices!

I was stuck for a tyre today so I went in there, €55 for one GP4000S:eek:

At least when Brian had his own place they were pretty much on par with internet prices anytime I bought something.

I got the tyre for €50 with the members discount, its still mad money for one tyre imho.

The same tyre is €35 on Wiggle.

I feel your pain, but if you need a tyre today you don't have much choice. Without wanting to get into the lbs vs internet debate, maybe if the local authorities weren't shafting businesses for rates, water etc then I'm sure he would be cheaper.

The gp4000s isn't an average tyre but worth the money though!

Like I said, when Brian had Speedy Spokes open in Riverstick his prices were fairly spot on with internet prices, why The Edge can't do the same is beyond me?

Lesson learned, I'll be stocking up on a few tyres!

True, but he's now closed down, maybe because he couldn't cover his costs. Anyway, just got bad news on the Mavic rim, so I won't be buying stuff for a while!

No chance, bought a few items that I knew were half the price online. Generally found his prices way too expensive, even dearer than The Edge and that's saying something.

I got a smashing bike from Brian just before Christmas. Price was well below anyway else. Built the bike for me from odd Campag bits n pieces. It's not a full groupset. He said that he was goin to reopen the old Douglas store, but nothing appears to have happened
