Working in a small firm, there over 5 years, fully quailified a year, but there is no career progression and im sick of it at this stage. one partner and one manager so cant go any higher. just feel bored and stale. on the upside its comfortable and well paid, just over €40k, easy hours etc.

not sure thats enough anymore. want to go somewhere i ll be given more responsibility, career progression etc. need a new challenge.anyway just wondering if people have any advice/hints etc. in particular

    1. Am i mad to leave now? in a way i know i am but other side of me says the economy wont be hugely better in a year and i ll still be in the same situation. why not bite the bullet now

    2. i see a good few jobs advertised on recruitment sites, do these really exist? have read some old threads on 'fake' jobs.

    3. also how do i stop these recruitment companys contacting me night and day? esp when in work. insist on e mail only contact.

any other advice or thoughts appreciated. as this is a big decision and i want to see all the sides and know of other peoples experience.

I would be very dubious of the positions advertised on recruitment websites.

Set up a different e-mail account for your cv e.g. joebloggscv@gmail.com, buy another sim card and if you have a spare phone use that so you know the only people who contact you on that number are people who have seen your cv.

Recruitment companies are also trying to get leads at the moment, they'll call you under the pretense that they have a position and ask alot of questions about your current job to suss out if they can place someone.

I've been keeping an eye open for suitable roles for the past six months, not practice though. From my experience, there is very little chance of you been bombarded with calls from agencies because they've so many CVs. I don't really care if an agency doesn't call me after submitting my CV online, but I can't stand the ones that never call or never return your calls after going to meet them at their request.

On the plus side, a lot of what is been advertised does seem to be practice based, and assuming that your not chasing a massive salary increase, you should be in a good position. The downside is that a lot people seem to be coming off training contracts and not getting them renewed (thats what I hear anyway).

My advice would be that given your reasonably comfortable in your current job, take your time. Browse the agencies or check for recommendation from here, and go to one, maybe two. See what they come up with over 4/6 weeks, and if nothing is happening then check with another agency. This leaves it much easier to manage your job search/possible interviews and you won't be getting bombarded with calls.
