YOUR STATION NEEDS YOU! Vote in the Iarnród Éireann Best Station Awards by Corporate Communications

    YOUR STATION NEEDS YOU!

Iarnród Éireann launches quest for Best Station 2009 – Customer voting introduced for first time

This year’s Iarnród Éireann Best Station Awards are underway, and competition will be tougher than ever this year as, for the first time, customers will directly rate stations in the race to take the coveted title!

Now in its 15th year, the new format for the Best Station Awards will see awards decided by text and online voting by customers this year, for over 140 stations around the network.

Customers will be asked to rate their station under the following criteria:

    - Staff helpfulness
    - Customer information
    - Station presentation
    - Staff appearance

How to rate your station, and be in with a chance to win one of five weekends away

To enter click here to rate your station.

Alternatively, customers can text: Vote followed by the station they wish to rate to 53799 (all texts charged 20 cent). A text will be sent by reply with the four criteria above to be graded from 1 – 5, 5 being the highest.

All entrants will be entered into a draw to win one of 5 luxury weekend weekends courtesy of Select Hotels of Ireland, with Iarnród Éireann also providing the train travel to and from the 5 great destinations.

The Best Station Awards will be presented in November, and awards will be presented in the following categories:

    - Best Intercity Station Leinster
    - Best Intercity Station Munster
    - Best Intercity Station Connaught
    - Best DART/Commuter Station
    - Community Award
    - Overall Best Station

Iarnród Éireann is encouraging customers to send in their ratings: both for excellence in service and standards, and in areas where customers wish to see improvements.

Enter now - closing date for your ratings is 6th November 2009.

Just given Broombridge my number 1 - unbelievable that it would even be listed. Shouldn't think I'll win a prize though! :D

Great idea! WHat do we give Staff Appearance? There should be a 0 in the list as there is no staff.

    1. Staff morale.
    2. Instill some some of competitiveness in the staff.
    3. Point out what they are doing right / wrong.

Victor - you don't really believe all that hogwash do you? It is just a crude IE PR job and it is laughable. The Irish Railway Record Society 'Uncle Toms' used to collaborate in this annual farce - they possibly still do - last year they complimented Mallow on 'preserving' the remains of the steam crane in the public car park. I pointed the irony of this to Dick Fearn given that it was IE that wrecked the Great Southern Rly Preservation Society project at Mallow, of which the unfortunate steam crane was part, and today the crane is a rusting eyesore. Yes by all means vote in this farce but give it the respect it deserves and give Broombridge your No.1. :D

ps Just gave Broombridge a second vote with a fictious mobile number ...fun for all the family!

    Vote early and vote often!!

It seems to allow multiple votes, and the prize would come in handy too!!

May I offer my sincere apologies!

Two years ago, I tore into B Kennys "assistant" on The last Word, because of the "Uncle Toms" you speak of. My point was rather simple...the rail using public should be the ones to decide which station is best.

So it obviously took IE another year to offload the prats in the IRRS and finally make this daft competition one that is decided by jaded, stressed out users as opposed to weekend enthusiasts.

My legacy lives on. RUI will probably claim it, but it was definetly me on a "solo" run.:D

So Derek, we can take it that the steam crane won't win any awards this year! Don't forget to give Broombridge your No.1.

I've voted Broombridge for a reason, a commuter at the station offered me a 'slug' of his flagon of cider while I was chasing a guy who was riding my stolen scooter along the platform, I wish I was joking but this is genuinely true!

I know you're a mod but are you trolling? :)

The problem with Irish Rail is the service, not the stations. All the hanging baskets in the world won't help if there's a 30 minute gap between Darts. London Underground stations are horrible but no-one really cares because they're on the platform for 30 seconds.

Edit: Voted for Broombridge too. I might give my next vote to the bomb shelter at Howth Junction.

This issue is still to be addressed in the new timetable when it finally is introduced later in the year.

I understand that the plan remains for a clockface DART service every 15 minutes.

That's still not exactly a great service

Sorry I should have clarified - that is to be the off-peak service pattern right through the day.

At peak hours this will be augmented with extra services between the 15 minute service.

Im sorry JD, but I must vote for the station that has virtually no customers to vote for it......Adamstown.:D

Broombridge has no customers though, where could you buy a ticket or spend money there?

    Broombridge is an irony.

There should be a special prize for "Best Platform" i.e. a station that isn't a station, just a platform but cleverly called a station....Kilcock springs to mind! and it only has one platform! :D

I can't figure out how anyone cannot vote for Broombridge - I cannot fault the staff, the ticket office or the signage. Then again, there isn't any.

Of course, I suspect that even if Broombridge came top, there would be some hasty manipulation of the results by IE.

I think we should save our votes for their infrastucture awards - Malahide Viaduct gets my number 1 every time!! ;)
