I have a question for all the girls out there!

I'm sorry if I seem like a total idiot here but I have been wondering about this for some while. My question is, what does it mean when you catch girls looking at you when you walk past them in the street? What I mean is when I am walking around town or college I often glance at girls I pass and find them looking at me first. The thing is I don't know whether it is because they may fancy me or if is like the clothes I am wearing or something. I am not very confident with women and usually find it kind awkward if a girl stares at me as I pass her, sort of like I am embarrassed like. Anyway I am not claiming to be brad pitt or anything but I am a good looking guy (I think) so at least I think that when this happens is it coz a girl may find me good looking. I do dress sort of alternative but not too out there or anything so dont think I'm getting eyes for that reason. Anyway this is just something that has been playing on my mind for a while and I sort of want to find out if I am actually getting checked out or it is all in my head.

OP I think the girls must find you a bit cute if they are looking at you like that. If you didn't look a bit interesting then any girl wouldn't even glance in your direction, never mind kinda staring at you.

Girls are like everything else... If you walk down the street what do your eyes settle on... interesting things.... Sometimes they're just different sometimes they're pleasing sometimes they're both. Naturally your eyes do move towards activity (such as people/cars/tvs etc) but other then quick glances, they see something interesting so they look.

OP, it could mean everything and it could mean nothing. I'm sorry for the inconclusive answer but unfortunately it's usually true. A girl could be smiling at you because she likes you, or she could be staring into space, daydreaming and just happen to catch your eye. I say this because I've done it. I was absently smiling at a guy recently, I didn't even realise until he noticed me and smiled back. I was actually looking at his top and thinking "My boyfriend has that top, too".

The best way of guessing what someone is thinking is to ask them. And even then it's not an iron-clad guarantee.

Thanks the replies. The reason I think a good bit about this is because it happens most days where I am strolling around. This sounds completely lame but I even started this little trick thing where if I am approaching a girl who looks nice I will look in some random direction and then wait until I am passing her before looking back quite sharp to find here looking at me as I walk past (I know I am such a loser, lol)
Ah no the reason I do this sometimes is just to find out if she was looking at me before I made eye contact wit her. It happened a few times today where I saw girls looking at me before I looked towards them. Anyway it doesn't really make a difference whether I am getting 'checked out' or whether somebody likes my tshirt coz its not like I stop girls in the street to chat them up or anything. Girls if you pass a guy that you like and ye make eye contact for a few seconds, do you expect the guy to smile?

Does it matter why they're looking at you, or what they expect you to do? They're strangers in the street.

If you see a girl looking at you that you fancy, go talk to her. You'll find out her intentions then. We're not mind readers, and women don't have a set pattern of behaviour that we all stick rigidly to. One could be thinking "he's cute", another could be thinking "he looks like my brother", another could be thinking "I like his shirt", another could be thinking "I might get a jacket like that for my boyfriend".

We're not all clones, we're human beings. They could be thinking anything.

Normally its cause I find them attractive and I am trying to get a better look at them, the odd time i am looking at their clothes.

Wish I had that happening me.

My advice though is smile, its easy to do, its non-commital and if they smile back its a boost to your confidence if they don't their loss.

And believe most people will, once you don't have a creepy smile that is.
