    Yo,

I used to be an avid biker many many moons ago.

I still have a mountian bike i got custom built when i was god 18 years old (long time ago). i've kept it in pristine condition, bar one lil problem.

Now take it easy on me ok i used to be bike savy but i've lost my bike geek....

    Problem:
The peddals are wobbling from side to side, its not the peddals themselves, rather the bolt/shaft that connects the two to the frame of the bike. Maybe some barrings gone or something?

Anyhoo, I am a tinkerer of sorts and I want to have a go at fixing it myself. So, what do I need to do? What parts would I need if any?

    Cheers

It is probably the bottom bracket, you probably want to replace it these days with a sealed cartridge unit.

    HERE 175mm, 22,32,42 BLACK @ 54 yoyos FTW.

Easy to fit too (prob easier than extracting tho old cranks and BB will be unfortunately)

    hi

I agree with the bottom bracket diagnosis here but would be helpful to know what type of chainset you have on it in order to go about sorting it out.

What make is your bike, btw? When you say custom built, was the frame made to measure?

I've a bit of a gra for old 80s and 90s mountain bikes. This is a great website for that stuff.

The bike itself was made by Dave English from the bike rack. It was a 1 frame from 4, hand made frame. Uber light and uber strong.

The group set (chain set) is Shimano LX throughout front and rear.

Im dying to get back into mountain biking again since winter is upon us. Just love all that muck up at the switch backs in Powers Court water falls :)

hope that helps you help me?

I have a spare square taper BB at home which will do the business for you (or it should anyway). 118mm taper IIRC. If you're interested I'll doublecheck when I get home.

The reason I have it spare is because I bought it but then decided to change the crankset and fitted the hollowtech ones linked to above. They're well worth the upgrade if you're willing to spend that little bit of extra cash.
