In the spirit of Lisbon 2, here is Athlete of the Quarter 2.

On another thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055700078 Derval O'Rourke was voted official boards athlete of the quarter but some non-voters objected on the grounds that Olive Loughnane as world championship silver medallist better deserved it.

Now we the great uneducated and unwashed can decide again. However unlike Lisbon, the results of this vote will not change the official outcome.

Who is Irish Athlete of the quarter June to Sept 2009 ? 27 votes

    Derval O'Rourke
    0% 0 votes
    Olive Loughnane
    22% 6 votes
    Someone else / don't care
    77% 21 votes

Why is there more than one option?

If it's obligatory to vote for the medallist then only one option is allowed. If it's not obligatory, well then we've had our poll.

The citizenry have expressed their opinions, and have been duly lambasted for them.

I see it's quite close: For Olive, 6; against Olive, 5.

For the record, I'm not a voter.

And walking should not be a branch of Athletics. ;)

    Why is that

I can't vote on this: I think both are winners.

I've admired Olive for a while having read how she just seems to train by herself and juggles her life! I respect that a lot.

Derval performed amazingly well - and was near as dammit to a medal herself. She proved a lot of people wrong, myself included. It was literally an explosive performance in the final - she looked every inch the world class athlete - and stronger than I've seen her before.

    I vote both.
