    I think if they didn't work immediately I could open a new account with my location specified as England, but after downloading the games I wouldn't be able to earn trophies on my main account?

    Why use the british store??
    The euro store does the same thing.

    If you have a 3v card/paypal you can use that on your euro account ;) or

    You can buy US psn cards on ebay and use them with a US account you set up.

    And play and earn the trophies with any account on the system.

    Just dont buy add-ons for one region if it is different to the region you purchased the game from.
