    Hi Guys/Girls

Did my first half marathon in Galway last weekend in 2hrs 4 mins.
Just wondering would that be regarded as good time?
Longest i have ever ran for before this was 12k.
    Found last 5k very tough.

Be interested on getting ye're thoughts.
    Thanks

    Excellent time - well done.

Of course you should only be thinking about running against yourself and your own personal timeclock without any regard for others and their times.

Its a personal best (PB) and will be a target to aim for the next time around. That's the catch!

Nice one - going from 8 miles to 13.1 is a pretty significant jump. Your 2.04 is fine for a first Half and will, I guess, put you about 3/4 of the way back. If you increase your training mileage then two hours is there for the taking, which is a nice landmark. Then it's entirely up to you how much you want to knock off that in the future. If you're young-ish and fit-ish then it might be plenty.

    Congrats well done.

Now you have a target to beat the next time and even maybe break the magic 2 hour mark!!

No one can say whether this is a good time or bad time. It depends on your individual circumstances. The winner of the Dublin half marathon did it in less than 70mins, but guys like that dedicate so much of their lifes to running. A person in their 20's will have a different concept to a 'good time' than someone in their 50's. You now have a PB which you can train to better. Have you looked at any training scheduals: Here's a good starting point - www.halhigdon.com

    thanks for the comments

i am 27 male, never really took running seriously but starting to really enjoy it.

I must say the last few kms were so so hard. i adnt really done any specific training. I am aiming for the waterford half in december so going to try a programme and hopefully get the time down.
    cheers

Last 5 k of a half marathon is always going to be hard no matter that paxe you run at, 2:04 is not a bad time as all and i'd guess if you put in work over the next year that 1:40/45 wouldnt be impossible. Race 1:59 myself 6 months ago and would hope to get into the 1:40 club next time out(Q1 next year) . Set yourself a target and enjoy your training and you will see improvment

did 2:05 in my first half (Cork - Blarney Half) and down to 1:39 now. Well done on your result.

+1 on the last 5K being hard, no point coming home fresh after a race!

    :)

Congrats! For many like myself that's a class time. did the dublin 1/2 marathon few weeks back, my 1st half, took me 2hrs and well happy with it. found the last couple of km painful, never so happy for something to end!

My first race was a half Mara. I love the distance. Ran 1:54 in Wexford last April having trained since January and 5 months later brought that down to 1:44 in the Phoenix park last Saturday week. I would love to knock another 5 mins off that and get in the 1:30's.

Enjoy the progress, it's a great feeling. Work hard but be wise about it, build slowly, avoid injury and pace yourself in races.
