Really slow internet on 3G

For some reason my internet speed on 3G connection is gone terrible lately. Can take a few minutes for a page to load or sometimes it won't load at all. I've got a full 3G signal and I rang o2 and they said there were no problems in the area and to ring Apple, but I'd prefer not to.

I'm on a jailbroken 3GS with 3.0, can anyone help please??

Same issue and the phone has lost it's o2 signal quite a few times in the past week. Mines not jailbroke, so there seems to something going on.

mine went to ****e a couple of weeks ago, theres a thread on talko2 about it...fix is below.

Goto Settings \ General \ Network \ Cellular Data Network, and change your Cellular Data APN to "open.internet"

    should do the job...

Cheers Gryzor, found it. I initially thought it was a thread on boards. Anyway, fair play for you pointing this out. For the benefit of others, tests using the SPEEDTEST app threw up varying results but over 5 tests, averaged at 500-800 kbps DL and 100-150kbps UL.
Changing to open.internet immediately increases this ( averaged over 5 tests ) to 1.8 - 2.0kbps with upload increase to 200+ kbps.
This issue ( default setting of internet and not open.internet ) has to be affecting many iphone users. This workaround should be stickied to ensure all users benefit. Historically, with networks in this country, customers have come to accept crap service as the "norm" and as a result are missing out on this easy fix.

I couldn't even get a result on the speedtest app when I was on Internet APN. Getting about 2.2 Mbps on open.internet.

Whats really pathetic is that the solution the guy in o2 customer support came up with was to send the phone back to apple!

Yep, same situation here before the change. Looking through the link, theres 10 bloody pages of folks in dublin who were experiencing the same problem ! You can bet your a** that's just the tip of the iceberg judging by the amount of iphone running out of the stores in recent weeks :)

Nice one Gryzor - WunderRadio has been crap for me recently because of the 3G issue.

    Hopefully sorted now. :)

Does WunderRadio use up much data?

It uses a lot of bandwidth compared with regular web surfing - but a 1GB allowance will almost certainly cover normal usage. If you were on some other networks data plan I would tread more carefully.

More calculations about radio data usage in this thread.

And don't forget you can always check your remaining O2 data allowance at any time. :)

Install the speedtest app and check your d/l & u/l speeds. I noticed a huge increase. That said, "if it's not broken, dont fix it" comes to mind;). But do bear the fix in mind should you experience any issues going forward.
