    Hi,

Just a quick question .. My partner is leaving his job voluntarily next week, he worked in that company for more than 6 years. He wants to go to welfare and apply for JB. Does he qualify if he left job voluntarily? And I heard he may be disqualified from getting JB for 9 weeks. Does that mean he won't get it for first nine weeks?????????????????

    This'll be good.

FWIW I think you are right about not getting anything for 9 weeks if he voluntarily leaves his job.

If he doesn't have a good reason for leaving (bullying, ethics violation etc.) then he can be disqualified for a period up to 9 weeks, yes.

has anyone actually left their job voluntarily in recent times and how long did it take for them to secure job seekers benefit.

I am supposed to be moving from Cork to co. Louth and have been applying for jobs non stop but have had no joy. (i am currently working full time in cork) I have been speaking to a person from a recruitment agency who said I would be in a better position to secure a job in louth if I actually lived there

I am working full time in Cork and thinking of handing in my notice and moving (because i was supposed to move anyways) and try to secure employment when I get up there... maybe ill have more luck.

My query after (after all of that!!) is if I will be eligible for the job seekers benefit and how long do you expect I could be waiting for it.

    Thanks your helP!

Personally I wouldn't move to Louth on the basis of the advice from a recruitment agency! I also would avoid leaving any job at the moment unless it was really nescessary.

edit: As far as I know you will not qualify for JSB because part of the conditions are that you have had to suffer a substantial loss of employment. By quitting this is voided. You may qualify for JSA though, but be aware this takes longer to process. Open to corrections.

A Deciding Officer can waive the 9 week disqualification if you can provide a solid, valid reason why you HAD no choice but to give up your job and move county, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
