    So...dorans is gone...:(

Is this gonna be a new gig venue also? Looks more like a sports bar to me.
There was a new desk and PA downstairs in there for Arthurs Day but I dunno if that was just for the gig?

    Hey,

does anyone know if it's still under same management/ownership?

    Cheers

New management as far as I know. Nothing to do with Eamonn Doran anymore:rolleyes:

It's def not under the same management/ownership. The guy who owned it (I'm not sure if you can mention names here?) apparently had no license/didnt pay bills or something along those lines. Di fontaines was closed yesterday also.

I'm actually HEARTBROKEN. :( I walked in the other day and I nearly started crying. They've got a massive leinster rugby flag out the front, there was a string of middle aged men along the bar watching rugby on the tv, while they played Come on Eileen. God it's so depressing. I feel like my teenage years are really over now :(

Anyway, last I saw they were still doing up the downstairs bit. It says they'll have live music every night on their flyers. Then again, from the looks of the place they'll probably just have didley-i irish music from now on.

    Le sigh.

So much history to the place like, even radiohead played there!
Customers only if you wanna use the jacks now

A friend of mine went in to have a look and asked if she wanted to be seated

But... that's not dorans :( Like in fairness it was in need of a makeover but all this white **** and stupid shiny lamps are gross. It was a ****hole, but a lovable ****hole!

They seem to have sealed off the door to difontaines too, I can't imagine they'll want people bringing pizza into the bar anymore. It's cheaper though I suppose so that's a tiny plus.. I'm tempted to go on a saturday night and see what kinda crowd it attracts! I hope they haven't fired all the bar staff, they were all really sound

the bar staff they had there when I went in seemed rude...

And the thin lizzy signs gone :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10 smashedpumpkin

Yeah they ripped down the walk of fame records too, they were just sitting in a pile of rubble when I was there. It's actually just so sad. Stupid Dermot Doran!

    :(

3 Crown Alley is the new name for Doran's. There are now signs with the new name up on the building. I was in for a pint and noted the new decor and toilets. They also have a full range of beers on sale and prices are low by City Centre/Temple Bar standards. The THIN LIZZY sign was not put in a skip. It was never owned by Doran's but rented from Smiley Bolger. Long before Doran's closed Smiley sussed something was up and removed the sign for safe keeping. The pizzeria is now also closed and aparantly reopening in about 2 weeks as part of the new bar.

    So its under new management?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 835 ✭✭✭countrykid

no doubt about it this place is different! not all bad though
the beers resonable and drinkable and the toilets are brand new:)!! think theyre gona have bands downstairs too
bar staff seemed friendly enough although i dont think theyd be putting up with much messin! :P
seems defontaines is gone alright but they said there is something coming to replace it food wise

Yes new management. Guys seem good. Place far better than before. No remaining signs of Dorans as Dermot Doran removed all his stuff before he departed. Nothing was put in a skip or trashed. All went to storage and may resurface in another venue. Live bands have started downstairs at weekends and place is apparently available to emerging bands or anyone who can attract a half reasonable audience. I went for a pint again last night and everyone seemed welcome to me.:)

Hmmm... Looks like this thread has been discovered by the management so... Also, emerging bands? Who else is going to play there?

I was in it the other day, It looks like a hotel lobby bar. Difontaines is a serious loss though. Such great Pizza.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,900 ✭✭✭rannerap

How much is the rent for gigs gonna be now so... Still need cheap venue to play gigs!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,593 ✭✭✭Soundman

Strange. Been hearing from a few bands enquiring about the venue, that it won't be hosting gigs for any sort of rock bands anymore. Wonder what the exact truth on the matter will be.

matt you should try the think tank in temple bar,its pretty cheap and theyl let you host rock gigs

the staff were like dogs to me at this new place.I remember an old dub fella who worked there before he was so sound and chatty. its a shame no amount of magnolia paint will paint over a loss of character.never setting foot in the place again.

was in last night and asked the bar man what the craic was with booking the downstairs stage for gigs. seems you have to give thm a demo cd/recording of some sort to even get the chance of playin!!
didnt mention cost though..could be dearer than before me thinks

I think it's much improved. Dorans was good fun and all but it was a complete kip. And the jukebox system thing annoyed the crap out of me.

This place is clean, well decorated, nice seating, and the bar staff were surprisingly courteous when they came to the table to take orders for drinks. It's still free and I wouldn't feel like I'm slumming it to have a drink there on a date now.

Sucks I suppose that it had to replace dorans, but as a standalone place it's nice.
