Just wondering if anyone might suggest a good location for a golf weekend in Nov. Have been to Vilamoura so was looking to try somewhere other than the Algarve.

Was thinking of Lisbon, but not sure what the golf scene is like close to the city. Has anyone tried Lisbon - or should I be thinking of somewhere else (e.g. in Spain) ??

    Tks

one of my mates moved to a place called Cascais,it's on the Lisbon coast. It's pretty classy,it's the D4 of that area if that's what your into. Not overly expensive though and the golf is imo better than the Algarve in terms of variety,Octavos Dunes is the course we played,we're only there for a wedding.
There is still a lot of Irish in the area but it's a lot friendlier and less busy than most of the Algarve

    www.emiliaromagnagolf.com

You could try these, they are offering 7 nights b & B and five rounds of golf start from a choice of 22 golf courses and 32 hotels staring from e490 for a 3 star hotel

I should read these posts before I post a reply, if your only looking for a weekend, you could try Salou, Greg Norman has a course in Port Aventura where there is also a second 18 and a nine hole course there is also a course in Reus, two and a half hour flight, 10 mins from the airport to the resort, and if you want a day trip to Barcelona, 11euro return on the train, you can even take in a visit to the Neu Camp and olympic stadium make a long weekend of it, the only thing I am not sure about is the Ryan Air flight schedules for november

Salou is a kip imo, aside from port aventura,it's a top spot for kids.
If you're looking for somewhere cheap enough what about the east coast of Majorca,if you have a decent budget you won't beat Cascais.

So you have played the golf courses heavyballs, what did you think of them,

we stayed in port aventure twice but only played golf once as was with the fam and that was 3 years ago, cant remember the name of the course,it was only a five min drive but it wasn't the greg norman course but it was ok,it's more the area i'd be against rather than the courses,i hated salou, the second time i went back we only left the resort twice for golf and to see barce

    Howaya OP,

I was in Cascais for a week a couple of years ago, and loved it.

We played Troya, Estoril, Penha Longa and a place called Riba Golf.

Troya is good but tough, once you leave the fairway you are automatically in a bunker, as there is no rough, just sand everywhere! It's also a long trek from Cascais over the Vasco de Gama bridge, about two hours I think.Good tough challenge though.

Estoril is good, old school club which has held the Portuguese open in the past, short enough, very pleasant though, and good views of the F1 racing track right next door too.

Penha Longa is superb, very very good course with plenty of challenges, water features, hills etc.Excellent experience there I must say, great clubhouse with good food at reasonable prices too.Overall defo my favourite.

Riba is shite, although we played their second course (No. 2 it's imaginatively called) and the greens were heavily sanded at the time.Apparently their no.1 course is very good though.

We didn't get to play Oitavos which is a pity as it's right in Cascais and supposed to be a cracker of a course, by all accounts not to be left out.

As for going out, Cascais has a good social scene, plenty of bars and restaurants, casino not too far away in Estoril, all good really.
We stayed in the Villa Gale hotel which was grand, we were a group of 12 20-something lads and we didn't get kicked out so happy days :)

Hope you enjoy it wherever you end up, and hope this helps..
