The guy can pack a punch no doubt. He'd rival Pavlik in terms of power. Don't think people should get too carried away just yet though. Sure the guy can knock out bums but let's see him fight some slick boxers who'll punch back. He certainly is a great potential but he will have to fight someone in the top 20 for me to start getting really excited. One to watch though. No doubt about that.

he is only in the second year of his career so I wouldnt be expecting world title contenders just yer but I think calling many of his recent opponants bums is doing them a diservice. Especially when you consider that other more respected fighters at the weight failed to stop them.

I've watched all his fights on youtube so far and will continue to take a keen interest.

Bums would be too harsh a word I suppose. I just wanted to stress that everyone he has fought up to this point are nowhere near the standard of belt holders and he has yet to fight someone very skilled who can negate his power (using their reach and clinches). All I'm saying is he will remain a great prospect and not future world champion until he steps up and does to a good fighter what he has been doing up to now. Someone like Craig McEwan would be a great test for him.

Hi Mag, that the reason I headlined it as "next big thing?" - with the emphasise on the "next" and the "?" - if he was banging out belt holder in this fashion then he would be on The Ring P4P list. There has been a noticable progression in the level of his recent opponants and I love to watch guys like this rise. But yes I agree with you it would be interesting to see him in against a well school technical fighter that can employee the tactics you mention. But again I will enjoy finding out.

I wasn't implying that you were talking him up so to speak. I was just saying that there are many boxing fans already comparing him to the best in the division and some claiming he would destroy anyone and I just think it's premature. His defense and chin have yet to be tested too. But I am not denying this guy has oodles of potential.

First thing I noticed is he has a similar style to Mike Tyson.
He's after doing phenomenal already and in such a short period of time. He's going to be an exciting guy to watch from now on.Has anyone noticed anything that will stop him from becoming a potential world champion?I'd like to see him in against a good rangy boxer next, someone who likes to leave his lead hand down :)

will be good to see him against the higher ends of the division.

one thing digme his coach kept remindin him v contreras to stop punchin contreras gloves... see what he's like after 10 rounds of that. this advice is after 18 fights too, not inexperience. great2watch though.

    I meant 'a decision' - it just felt like a draw! :D

Seen this guys last fight against naugler who took him the full 10 rounds and what from what i can see he does not have pavliks power like everyones talking about and his record is a little decieving. If any of the top 30 middle weights fought david lemeiuxs first 20 opponents im pretty sure they would have the same record as david

Interesting to see that Lemieux is fighting Walid Schmicet tonight.

Many will remember Schmicet from the pummelling that he gave Duddy in the first three rounds of their fight.

In the main event of the evening WBC Jr. Intercontinental and Canadian Super Middleweight champion David Lemieux of Laval, Quebec knocked out Walid Smichet of St. Eustache at the 0:57 second mark of the second round successfully defending his Canadian title.

Lemieux went straight at Smichet showing no fear of his ring experience landing hard accurate combinations that had Smichet staggered and reeling around the ring. In the second round Lemieux continued his assault on Smichet and dropped him with a thundering left hook. Smichet made it to his feet by 5 and staggered into his corner. The referee asked Smichet to walk to him where the referee then waved the fight off. This was another impressive knockout in Lemieux’s young career over a rugged veteran proving once again that he is the real deal.

Impressive stuff from the Canadian. 2010 will be a big year for him. I hope he steps up another notch again. Will be keeping a close eye on this lad.

That was pretty impressive... kid can throw a punch for sure... he has a habit for finding great angles to attack from as well. Watching his upper body movement reminds me so much of Hagler, not that i'm comparing him to the great man but he does find lovely angles...

lads please tell me I have a gang of believers now after last night!??!?!

Never heard of this kid until now.
Just youtubed a few of his fights. Jaysus, that kid can hit from all angles!
He's got great movement, and seems to have a great deal of "ring savvy" already. It will be very interesting when he moves up against more quality opposition. I'll be watching him with interest....

Terrific exciting style, trying hard not to get too excited about this bloke but its tough :p can't wait to see him go up against bigger fish.

A mouth watering clash with Bute somewhere in the distant future perhaps :)

Hard to tell from last night as he made it look so easy! Great power and looks like he can take one, very promising future this lad.

Ayala gave Abraham a tough fight and lasted until the 12th with him. Lemieux destroyed him in 1 round. Impressive stuff indeed. Lemieux is really exciting, has big power, very aesthetically pleasing. :D

That was a viscious disposal of a very experienced guy. The technique of his punching is awesome. The thud of his punches sound so crisp and powerful. I'll still like to see him against a tall rangey counter puncher who won't trade with him (like Ayala foolishly did). But with an offense like that, I don't think you could rule him out against anyone because his offence is legit. He can KO anyone if he lands on them.

Never in doubt VintageKits! Unbelievable performance, the co-commentator was speechless, right after sayin "I'm just not taken with Lemieux like everyone around here is, but I will use this fight as a litmus test..." Lemieux must've heard him...

watching it again...to dismantle someone as conidtioned as Ayala in that manner is incredible. who next magma?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,972 ✭✭✭joepenguin

He has put together a great cv for a 21 year old! Big things ahead for sure. I've only seen youtube clips and the like but he does look like a quality fighter.

I think one or two more fights against someone on Ayala's level. Then a step up to someone like Craig McEwan or Lajuan Simon. If he can blow them away he will probably rule the division imo.

He'll need to have a good chin if he is going to continue to fight like that.

Google a few of his fights. He seems to be well able to take a punch.
