Hi i was wondering if i would be entitled to a Fis book.
I've been told that as a married couple with two kids we are entitled to earn up to e590 and if we're under that FIS would make up 60% of the difference. My wife earns e210 on disability (weekly certs) and was given an exemption to keep her certs for a few months and earn an extra e200 on a CE scheme as rehabilitation work. I've been offered a possible part time job 4 hours a day 5 days per week, approx e220 pw gross.

Would all my wifes earnings be classed as income and are mortgage repayments or other expences taken into consideration?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there, I could be wrong on this so please take advice from others sources too. But when I was on a CE scheme I asked in the social welfare office about applying for FIS and was told that since I was already getting a second government payment(CE) that I couldnt get a 3rd(FIS). Eventhough at the time between my OPF payment and CE wages I was still coming in about €80 below the FIS limit.

All income coming into your household, including your wife's disability, is assessed for the purposes of FIS.

From www.welfare.ie:
Income from any source (excluding the disregards stated below) is assessed as means, however, though there are no rules excluding the assessment of capital, the Department of Social and Family Affairs generally does not assess capital or examine your bank account details for FIS.

The main items counted as income are:

Your assessable earnings and your spouse/partners’ assessable earnings. (Assessible earnings are gross pay minus tax, employee PRSI, Health Contribution, income levy and superannuation.)
Any extra income you or your spouse or partner have from employment (such as pay for overtime, bonuses, allowances or commission)
Any income you or your spouse or partner may have from self-employment
Income from occupational pensions
Income you or your spouse or partner may have including social welfare or HSE payments
Rental Income from the letting of property or land (the capital value is not assessed)

The following payments do not count as family income:

Child Benefit
Early Childcare Supplement
Carer's Allowance
Guardian's payments
Supplementary Welfare Allowance
Rent Allowance for tenants affected by the de-control of rents
Domiciliary Care Allowance
Foster Child Allowance
Income from casual employment by the Health Service Executive (HSE) as a home help
Income from a charitable organisation
Income from providing accommodation to students studying Irish in Gaeltacht areas under a scheme administered by the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

Hi all

I don't want to add confusion, so my apologes - as MariMel says, you can't usually claim FIS if you are working on a CE scheme.

For bblueblood though this shouldn't matter, because he is the claimant and his wife is on the CE scheme.

This is correct, so as a couple our incomes combined would exceed the e590 allowed. It's just i think i heard before that in some cases monies earned from 'rehabilitation" can sometimes be disregarded as income.
