Hi Im looking for some help/ pointers on what might be the cheapest way to call a south african mobile.
I have an O2 bill phone (no land line)
the person Im calling doesnt have PC skype access, only option is to contact them on their mobile too.
    so far Ive looked into:

    1. using skype my end charged at 21 cent per minute approx. I dont think there are other hidden charges?

2.Ive tried some of the other cheap rate numbers ie: 1520520520 (15cent) before the main number but there is a charge with O2 to use this premium number.

    3. Ive also looked at this crowd, dont know much about them.

    http://www.callingcards.com/shopping/rate_table1.asp?GUID=56F8A58066233847B0FBDF79B9AC77FC

the rate is cheap but i still will have to pay to use the access number
(in my case its the cost to ring 0(21)2349990, local landline using O2)

if anyone has any other suggestions that would be great,
perhaps there is no cheaper option.
Is buying skype credit my best bet?

One option is to change your bill phone to the plan where you can call O2 and landlines free (costs €20 per month) and then use smartvoip via access number to call the rest of your numbers. Calls to South Africa is €.06 +vat per minute which is about 7.5 cents per minute.

thanks for for the suggestion, will look into this.
can i ask how does smartvoip work, never used it before.
    Is it similiar to skype?

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. For smartvoip (and a lot of their family) you can use it a number of ways.
    1. Download the client software and use the pc (this is good for managing the account also)
    2. Use an ata with standard phone.
    3. Use an access number. It checks caller ID and through connects your call. (this is what I suggest you use)

would the following work. apologies as Im not that savy when it comes to skype/ voip etc.

could i use skype to ring a johannesburg landline number (the access number to a pre paid account with this company http://www.sundialtelecom.co.za/how_to.htm) and from that enter a pin number and my destination number in south africa?

or can skype only connect to the first joberg number?
would this work with smartvoip instead (downloaded it but its giving some problems)?

again any help would be grateful.
i looked into switching my O2 contract to the plan that was suggested in a previous post but im not sure if this plan would suit me on a day to day basis.
ideally id like to be able to phone a Sth Africa mobile 2-3 times a week for the best cost from my mobile/pc
