Dave Llewelyn and Phil Short came close to winning the circuit of Ireland in 1987. They competed in an Audi Coupe quattro, registration 44 XMN. I'm trying to document this car as much as possible, it was a great result for a VAG car in Ireland. Here's what I've pulled together on the Coupe quatro in Group A rallying so far

If anyone has any photos, video, or other information that they'd like to share on 44 XMN or any other group A Coupe quattro, could you please contact me at james@kvquattro.com?

    Thanks in advance, James

Good site, but I see that 44XMN has been crushed, why oh why would you crush such a car. I presume it was destroyed in a crash of some type, do you know what happened?

    Interesting stuff.

44 XMN and MAN 44A are Isle of Man plates btw.

These were both Dave Sutton cars, and I believe that a lot of his cars were registered over there to get around some of the UK type approval rules

.....I remember watching RTE at the time, and Hannu Mikkola sliding his........S1 ?...........around the paddock at the RDS. All 4 wheels spinning on tarmac. I have it on VHS somewhere...........that's probably the same year Michelle was here too.

And even if it never won anything here, the sound alone was worth it.................many years later I got to see and hear an S2 in action in the UK, and it's spine-tingling stuff.........

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
