How do i upgrade my Netopia Wireless Router Speed? (im on Eircom)

Hey guys,
Well i play my PS3 and ok it has good connections but HORRIBLE downloads.
It takes forever to download stuff.
I am on Eircom and my Router is a Netopia 2247.

Anyway my speed is (i got the info from my wireless routers homepage)
Speed:
1024/128 (kbps)

Its not AWFUL by any means but not great either.
I'm only 17 so my dad pays for the bills and stuff.
I'd like to know how to upgrade the speed and how much will it cost. im looking at atleast 3Mbps.

Don't suggest something like 10Mbps as it will be alittle too costy.

downloading off the PSN isn't quick no matter how fast your internet connection is.

i have a ps3 connected to 20mbps UPC cable broadband and the only thing that isn't up to speed is PSN downloads.

they have an option to watch video's on it as they are downloading, but it's not quick enough to do it even on my connection.

do what i do and set off your downloads, queue them all up and let them download whilst you're doing something else and just come back to it later or in the morning.
