    The bit at the bottom was interesting:
    Spain's defence ministry says that under Spanish law it cannot post a military presence aboard ships but last month gave permission for companies to hire private security guards armed with high-velocity rifles.
    I thought it was a nice workaround, but at the same time, would it change fo the pirates operated near Somalia?

    It wouldn't change too much, a number of merchantmen have now started either arming themselves, or hiring mercenaries to do it. Even Blackwater ...erm.. Xe... have been hired to send their ship down that way.

    The issue has primarily been a matter of insurance: A lot of the shipping insurance companies don't like the idea of the ships carrying guns: Someone might get hurt.

    Have Xe ships too, there like a mini army,navy.

    And Heli's, they are their own Private Military. That's why they are Called a "Private Military Company":P

    I can see some innocent Somali, or just black fishermen dying because of Blackwater, of course the story will be their boat capsized.

    It is fair enough to arm people on the ships though, you have to deter the pirates some how.

    I'm not aware of any fixed-wing aircraft, but they do have helicopters to fly off their ship.

    Thanks for the info lads.
    Thats mad that they are a very well equipped private military, have they all the same stuff as military, they hardly have a special forces unit etc do they???
    Is it all ex marines etc that work for them
    (not much info about them on their site)

    They're all special forces, apparently.
