I drive a 05 Caddy van. It's fast and would be siminlar to the most saloon type cars and faster than many.
As vans go vw are the best and the caddy is no exception. However I too drive a jeep and would prefer it, as the ride is much better as it was designed first and foremost as a passenger car. This also means usualy extras.
The caddys ride is rough, you feel the smalllest of imperfections on the road.

Handling wise the caddy wouldnt be the best, it has a tends to slip if you push her hard into a cornor. In a straint line you will have no problem. Plenty of overtaking power. The only let down is the ride and cornoring ability. Again this is down to it being designed as a van for "work". Whereas the jeep would be designed as a "car". Therefore performace would have been key to the designers.....

I'd be careful about chipping/remapping something which you don't own. Could be leaving yourself wide open if something goes wrong. Plus the insurance situation would need to be looked after

I'm commuting in a 105bhp Caddy Tiddly Eye at the moment.
Good tyres make a big difference in improving handling. It's no sports car, but flat enough through the corners, and soaks up the lumps and bumps better than my MX-5. Provoke it and it'll understeer fairly predictably, even more with the ASR(anti skid) switched off. Brakes are really sharp. The power delivery will be pretty much the same as the Golf. Our van is empty most of the time, so it feels fair peppy. I bought a tuning box but Herself doesn't want to fit it yet. To be honest it doesn't need it, I've yet to find myself in a situation were I've wanted more boost.

Check out caddy2k for more on them
