Have the red and black 08 Orion for 2 years now and cannot recommend it enough. Loads of training miles, two TOI cycle challenges, two Marmottes and no problems so far. Is nice and stiff, handles well, is great for climbing and most importantly I think it looks nice.

+1 (minus the TOI and marmotte parts of course). Very nice bike, very stiff and responsive, limited only by the rider.

Hi - like DIRKVOODOO I got one of these from Cyclelogical and have no problem recommending them. They are a great bike and well spec'ed. Not sure what the spec you have is, I went for a triple as I was thinking about all the sportives and Wicklow etc. and decided that it gave me the most options. Anyway, the bike is my 'event' bike and I love it. I like the way it is stiff and light and it handles the bumps beautifully including the downhills. Go for it if you have a good deal...!

I know 2 clubmates with Orions and no complaints at all. I have a 5 year old excalibur and a 2008 Noah so am a big fan of Ridleys. (Rode Cannondales prior to them).

Have you shopped around at all? They were selling the 08 model in cycleogical for 1800 euro at the same time some other place (can't remember, northside somewhere) was selling it for about 2300 euro.

1900 is still good. Has the spec changed for 09? I seem to remember there being a Veloce equipped one on bikeradar.

as far as i know its the 08 model i haven't seen many of them around and i'm a bit iffy about buying online.
I'm living in kerry so heading to dublin to look at a bike is a bit of a pain

Ah gotcha. Well, I would still say have a look but even at 1900 euro I don't feel you are being ripped off.

I've had mine a year and it's been a great bike so far, really can't fault it except it's a bit heavier than some other carbon frames and the Oval finishing kit was fugly.

    thats the one alright.
I'm not too worried about the weight, i could loose a few pounds myself, which will compensate.
They also have a Ridley Noah and an Excalibur in VC
The Noah is a beautifull machine with a lovely price to match

Yeah the Noah is a stunning bike alright, but even if you are only planning on club racing, the Orion is more than enough. It certainly won't be the bike holding you back :)

I thought (and this is from when I was looking around buying it last year, so my memory might have faded) that Ridley frames had a terrible reputation for cracking years ago and that they sorted out any design/quality issues?

Mine has not cracked anyway, Cadex seems to still be riding his too.

Brother has an Orion the last year and a half, it seems grand so far and he would be a little heavier than normal!

Heavier than normal for cycling, i.e. normal?

In medical terms he would be overweight, but not obese!
