After exactly 7.6 months the police will just automatically delete you from their system and you won't be bothered again.

    They're nice like that.

If anyone told you anything other than what I told you, then you're being lied to. The fact that you can't seem to tell MagicMarker is taking the piss tells me you're willing to accept only what you want to hear.

@psni - will you send me 6 PMs telling me what happens if you are caught speeding?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 736 ✭✭✭darsar

FWIW got caught and went to court. £160 fine and they took my licence to be sent away to have 3 points and endorsement put on it. Take it like a man.

That was speeding and a dangerous overtake last year before the new rule came in, i.e points counting on licences north and south of the border so I never got the points anyway.

Wait, I think everyone else missed this. So down here if we're caught speeding and just don't turn up to court they just forget about it after 6 months? Sweet !

Only if they aren't wearing their official Garda cap whilst forgetting.

And on Tuesdays, except Pancake Tuesday.

thanks for your lovely input, read the title before you post any more

I read the title and my advice was 'take it like a man and deal with it'. That means for the uneducated amongst you to take it like a man and deal with it.

It's quite transparent actually. You broke the law therefore you should pay for it. Ever hear the quite popular but overused saying 'if you can't do the time don't do the crime?'.

You went over the speed limit but it wasn't your fault right? You were in a rush to get somewhere important weren't you?

Something tells me that it wasn't a college you were going to or anything of the sort. Grow up and educate yourself and stop being such a coward!.

Just because you don't think you did anything wrong doesn't mean that you haven't... and ignoring a court summons will land you in unbelievable amounts of legal wrangling.

I'm not very familiar with Northern Irish law but I would assume that like down south there would be a warrant out for your arrest for not showing up to deal with it... just as there would be everywhere else in the world.

    However I know you won't read anything that I've just typed and will make up your own assumptions so here's my real advice;

Yeah they'll forget about it... hell they might even send you a lollipop in the post for being such a good sport about it all... a little slap on the wrist and a polite 'don't do it again you cheeky bastard' never hurt anyone.

This is what the OP actually did.

    Just so everyone else knows:

The OP was caught speeding in Northern Ireland, and gave his sister's address as the address for the summons to be sent to.

The summons was served, and he didn't turn up to court.

The OP asked me what the likely status of the case against him is.

I explained that the magistrate will have issued a bench warrant for his arrest for failing to appear in court.

He's looking for a way out of it and there isn't one.

@OP get thee a solicitor and stop taking any further advice from strangers on the internet.
Finally before I close this, I would just like to echo MagicMarker's last two posts!
