There is a product that has been on the market for a number of years and is available in multiple forms by a large number of companies. I would like to know the original patent details but I don’t know what company acquired the original patent. Can someone point me in the right direction to start the search? Thanks.

As far as I know, a patented product is required to display the patent number which has been filed against it and the countrie(s) it has been filed in.

It gets more complicated for products with a patent pending. But as the product has been on the market for a number of years, I would expect that the patent application has been processed at this stage.

I'm open to correction on all of the above.
