Costa del Sol-which area for 30's couple?

    Hi there,

Firstly, apologies for such a vague message. I have been driving myself crazy trawling this and other sites, trying to decide which area on the Costa del Sol would suit my boyfriend and I best for a week long stay.

We are planning on flying to Malaga on Oct14th for 7 nights but have never visited that part of Spain before.

We are hoping to get some sun, and just want to chill out for a week without breaking the bank. We would like to stay somewhere with a little bit of character; small, windy streets or an old town to visit would be preferable to a long, soul-less strip of high-rise blocks.

Reasonably priced, good mediterranean food is a must, and whilst we would like to stay somewhere with a few people around and some nice bars to have a cocktail in, we're in our 30's and there to chill out, not party 'til dawn.

I have been looking at descriptions of places like Malaga, Torremilinos, Marbella, Fuengirola etc but would really appreciate some Boards users' personal insight into where might best suit our needs. Also, we don't have a huge budget-we'd like to find an apartment or hotel for less than €400 for the week if possible. This will probably limit our choice of location-I noticed Puerto Banus and Marbella are a bit pricier.

Finally-whilst I know that October weather on the Costa can be unpredictable, is there anywhere along the coast that may have less changeable weather than others? Whilst we wouldn't mind some rainy days, obviously we'd like as much sun as possible!

Many thanks for any advice or suggestions; I am very confused at this stage!

    Regards,

    Mar.

Maybe have a look at Nerja.....

We got married there back in April and all our guests loved it. Its much more old style than the resorts like Fuengirola etc, and has those windy streets and the bit of character you are looking for. Lots of restaurants and pubs as well.
Its probably a bit cheaper than the other resorts as well.

We're heading back at the end of October for some relaxation!

*edited to say if you decide to consider Nerja and want info on hotels or location of accomodation you're looking at etc, let me know. Between our guests we had ppl stay at a good few of the hotels and at different private apartments so might be able to help!

I stayed at the Bajondillo in Torremolinos a few years back, as a last minute cheap holiday,

initially I thought torre, that's where all the chavs go, but the place has made an effort to take itself upmarket. there are plenty of nice restaurants and the walk from this hotel up to the town takes you through the small winding streets you talk of.
