Dont know whether this has been done before but I thought it would be good for people who have sat the exams to give some advice, thoughts or things they would've done differently to those facing the prospect of the exams next June.

Others could start similar threads for CAP1 or FAE.

So come on, ante up and share...I think everybody sitting the exams (whether Cap1, 2 or FAE's) need all the help they can get.:)

Depending on what group you have the lectures can be a waste of time.

If you're in Dublin Group 2/3 (the lectures were held in the Royal College of Surgeons), the only lectures I would bother going to are Sandra Gleeson's Financial Reporting.

When you have to do the Assessments for Auditing and SFMA, put EVERYTHING into it. It's crucial that you get a good mark. Work with people that you know from work and even with people here on boards.ie for how to prepare as best as possible.

I wouldn't recommend waiting until study leave to start studying (but it's difficult to do). You'll be teaching yourself a lot of the course yourself. They've released a massive question pack for Financial Reporting and SFMA. Try and work your way through the examples occasionally (starting from January, but really don't overdo it).

That's just my personal experience. I mean I picked up things at the lectures and all and they were useful to a certain extent. But with regards to passing the exam, most of the work I've done has been done by myself, through reading the books, making my own notes and attempting the questions etc.

For actual practice, I wish I bothered doing this the first time round, but use ACCA (F7 is a good one for Financial Reporting practice) papers, the old Prof3 (to a much lesser extent, the questions are too easy for the standard you have to know), and FAE (the MABF is possibly the most relevant for SFMA).

A lot of this is probably not relevant until you start buckling down and studying, but these are just the things i've picked up on.

I went to around 70% of lectures, and i'm still repeating three exams, so my advice probably isn't gonna be the best going. But you'll be fortunate enough to have 5-6 sample papers to practice on. There'll be quite a lot of material in them, but I wouldn't recommend focusing exclusively on these papers.

    +1
Can't really give you that much serious advice seeing as how we're the first year to do CAP2, it's kind of difficult to know what I should've done differently tbh. I should've passed the bloody exams! ;)
Might be able to give you a better answer this day next week.
