    Your connection will go only as fast at the weakest link. NTL, at the most, will provide 20Mbps coming into your house, so you'll never get faster than that to the internet. The only reason you'd upgrade to a Wireless N router would be if you had video saved on a second PC in the house that you wanted to stream to your laptop.

    So I won't notice a performance increase at all when using the Internet (i.e. downloading/streaming movies)? :(

    Nope not a thing will change with your downloads from the net, they come in on your line at whatever speed you are being provided with. The 300mb you speak of is the speed at which it would transfer files around your network, nothing to do with download off the internet. If you were transferring files from one pc to another this is the speed they would go at. So you are wasting your time upgrading your router if you are looking to increase your download speeds.
