Any reason why people don't leave these on their bikes all of the time, i.e. use them on the road as well?

What have you done with El Tonto, and why are you using his computer?

    I think he is drunk.

There is a simple answer to this.

    BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL TALK.

    From somewhere:
The Tacx Trainer Skewer is a heavy duty rear training skewer made to handle the stresses felt on when turning the big rin on your trainer. The Taxc Trainer Skewer will work in most trainers on the market today and can also be used for normal riding.

Maybe they are just cheap and heavy? Or maybe most people who have a trainer and skewer already have a pair of skewers with their wheels and just like them to match?

Thanks Dirk. In that case I think the Tacx skewer may be spending a good chunk of winter on my bike.

I have a separate wheel for the trainer, just a cheap zipp disc, as its better if you have a separate tire -- the turbo tires are quieter.

(Oh its not zipp its as Askium - 90 euros. )

It's ugly, heavy and doesn't match your front one.

Please leave your groupset at the door on your way out.

I've a spare wheel too and a pile of old tyres, but no spare cassette at the moment and 11 speed cassettes aren't cheap, so it'll be a while before I buy another.

Damn -- just buy the cheapest heaviest one you can. It won't make any difference -- but changing tires to use a turbo its a good idea -- it gives you a reason not to do your session

Have you tried the Pista on the trainer?

The cheapest, heaviest one is Chorus you see.

You can't use it on the trainer. Different frame spacing etc. And you can't use the skewer with track wheels

Depends on the trainer and the skewer. I use my track bike on the turbo over the winter just on the normal axel with it clamped on the track nuts. No issues

Is there any danger of the trainer doing damage to normal tyres?

I haven't really gotten into the turbo yet this year, but I always swap the back wheel to an old one because I've noticed that the turbo seems to produce a shiny stripe along the contact patch of the tyre, and that the tyre/roller can get quite hot - I'd be afraid that I'm cooking all the grip out of the surface rubber during the season where grip is most needed.

I've nothing but my own suspicions to base this theory on though, but I'm almost never wrong.

My turbo won't reach the nuts on my track bike either btw. Is yours a tacx tonto?

I left mine on after last winter out of laziness but then noticed it began to rust badly.

I tend not to use skewers, makes decending and chain gangs alot more interesting.

@Tom: Yes it will wear out a tyre quicker. I would say get the special trainer tyres which are made from a harder rubber compound or use an old tyre. I have a 25mm Vittoria Zaffiro if you don't have one handy.

You should get one that connects to the pc with the software.. not only you would love to throw the bike along with the turbo from the window but also the pc as well.

Back on topic.. I went on the spin today with my turbo skewer on, it was ugly :pac:

I had a great workout with the turbo today....
As in fitting the trainer tyre onto the wheel. They are an absolute bagstad to get on, nearly broke me paws!
