Just need to know what it takes to get into college. Im sorry if this question was asked before and i know requirements vary for different courses. Lets say i wanted to go to college and study something like Physics. If i get an A1 result in higher level Physics and an A1 in higher level Maths but do bad in other subjects like English and Irish would i be able to get accepted into a physics course, or are you judged strictly on how many points you get in the leaving cert.

Thank you in advance to the people that answer this question.

Depends on both the course and the college, but for the vast majority you need to get the right amount of points and meet the subject requirements for the course, and the requirments for getting into the college. For Physics in UCC you need "HC3 in two subjects and passes in four other subjects at H or O level in the Leaving Certificate from Irish, English, Mathematics, one Laboratory Science subject (i.e. Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Physics with Chemistry (joint) or Agricultural Science) and one other subject recognised for
entry purposes." That's for most science courses, then for Physics additionally it says ''HC3 in a Laboratory Science subject or Mathematics or Applied Mathematics". Get those requirments and the points and you should have the course :)

For example I did a biology course: I did very badly in German and Maths, but I got well above the needed HC3 of Biology, got above it for English and Home Ec, then had four other subjects that countred as my pass, all added up to the points I needed = got the course.

    Hope that clears stuff up.
