New bike for commuting?

    Hi
I have been commuting for years on a MTB with slicks. Now the bike to work scheme is on offer where I work so I was going to go for a flat barred roadbike-Giant FCR/Rapid or Specialised Sirrus. Neither of these seem to be available until early January due to demand. So it looks like I have the choice to wait or go for a Giant Defy roadbike. I haven't ever commuted on drops and the route to work is pretty crap surface. I like the idea of a roadbike for fitness training also but is it to risky on drops in traffic?

I commute on an SCR (the precursor to the Defy) with no problems. I spend most of my time riding on the hoods and the position doesn't feel much different to the position I had on my old FCR. It certainly doesn't feel any less safe.

    No, it's absolutely fine.
