    Howdy folks,

I have a bee in my bonnet about going to Africa. So much so that I'm saving up my annual leave days to go for a three-week trip if I can swing it with the manager (fingers crossed on that one).

    Does anyone know of:
    • Any websites/resources that would have any good info on traveling to Africa or planning an Africa trip?
    • Any particular parts of the continent that are especially worth visiting?
    • Any activities that are especially worth doing?

The main thing on my mind if I go would be to see the wildlife. I would *love* to see big cats in the wild. But I want to avoid a three-week safari and fit lots of things in while I'd have the chance.

    Thanks in advance!

There's plenty of Safari circuits in East Africa, which also take in beach experiences and trips to Zanzibar etc., however from what I've heard its the most expensive, and alot of people opt for tours and stuff, which can be handy from what I've heard. A relative just went on one recently, so it'll be interesting to see how she got one.

As for what part is especially worth visiting, it depends what you want to see, it's a big continent, with alot of variations and contrasts, I'd love to see every part if I had the chance!

For easiest, and the most developed tourist infrastructure, I'd say South Africa, there's plenty of safaris to do, they have a huge amount of national parks and it's alot cheaper than East Africa to do apparently, the parks are well developed and they have generally have alot of big 5 parks. It's also easier to travel independently. There's alot to do in SA apart from safariing aswell, depending on time of year theres whale watching, shark diving, plenty of cultural activities and their history is very interesting, and plenty of other stuff I'm not gonna get into. Cape town is also one of the best cities in the world IMO!

Pick up lonely planet Africa, or else there thorntree travel forum on their website. tripadvisor is also pretty good for recommendations.
