Best way to clean monitor screens /w household items?

So my monitor(s) are fairly filthy and need something to clean them. I know there's fancy stuff you can buy but what about just normal household stuff? Which would be best? Would a little fairy in water be bad for the screen? or what about windex? Thanks for looking.
