What Network Are You Calling?

    Hi there.

I'm on the "free" calls to 02 and Landlines iPhone plan but obviously would like to minimise my time to other networks. Given the migration of numbers across various networks it's difficult to know what's what, so is there an app (or function on the iPhone) that can advise you what network you are connecting to?

    Thanks.

This information would never be able available to the handset so I wouldn't expect there to be an app that can do this.

if the number has been ported from the original network it should produce an audible beep before connecting.

There is a beep at the start - If this goes you are connected to a different network. No beep, you are on the same network......Although I have have got that completely arse about face........:D

If you hear the beep it only means the network doesnt match the ph number as far as I know, it doesnt have anything to do with what network you are on (I think!!)

    +1

iirc its when you ring an 087 number and you hear the beep, it means that number is not on th vodafone network, and so on with the other networks.

so if you ring an 086 number and get the beep, its not on O2 anymore etc etc

isint there a text number that you can send the number to and it texts back which network??

Thanks all for the replies. I might contact 02 - to me it seems like a reasonable expectation that one should know the network one is connecting to at the point of call connection in order to manage costs.

It's also reasonable for you to know who you are calling, it could be argued!

    Ah.. no.

In reality one does not always know who they are calling let alone know what network they're on.

Without getting into an argument, it was consumers who wanted the freedom to switch networks and retain their number, which is why it's pretty much guesswork to see who it on what network. *shrugs*

Maybe the Free Evening and Weekend Calls to everyone would suit you better than the O2/Landlines one?
