    Hi All,

Just looking for some advice... this is my 4th season hitting the slopes been to Bulgaria first (ok for beginners) then ValThorens then meribel last season (able for blues, reds...easy blacks).

This year we have a party of 6 all with previous experience... looking for a value trip (recession). We are between Livingno and Andorra.. I would like to know what you guys would go with and reasons for one over the other.

    Thanks

Been to Livigno, Pas De La Casa, and Arinsal/Pal.

    Livigno, because in my opinion:

    1) The nightlife is way better
    2) The food is way better (check out Bella Vista)
    3) Andorra is a sausage fest
    4) The snow park is quality, with a dedicated chair lift
    5) In Pas De La Casa, every restaurant/pub (mysteriously) has one jacks only, for everyone! Prepare to queue....
    6) Apres events are better (ice rallying/skidoos/bowling/mountain retreat)
    7) The runs are better, get the huge blue on the Mottolino side through the trees and tunnel when quiet, savage!

Only thing not going for Livigno is the transfer time, about 4 hours, more on a bad day.

    My 2c anyway!

yep the transfer time is a major killer esp after a flight,ps if you rent a car make sure they give you proper snowchains, and put antifreeze into the fuel very important:cool:

Transfer time for both is pretty huge really, much more skiing to access in Andorra though.

Pas is a bit tacky alright, but try Soldeu for a slightly more sensible and smaller town, it's also right in the middle of the huge area that you can access as well, whereas if you are in Pas then it is a fair track to get over to El Tarter if there is anyone that wants to go in the park over there. I think the terrain is a bit better for boarders and skiers over the Soldeu/ El Tarter end anyway though.

I've not done much skiing in Livigno as I broke myself on the first day, the bars there are much better than what you'll find in Pas though, and as that is about all I saw on my trip as I was on crutches the whole time.

Both are tax free areas though, but that doesn't make any difference as they just up the prices to basically match what you'd pay anywhere else.

Hey, I've been to both Livigno and Soldeu. Going on your previous resorts i'd say you will prefer Soldeu because with the Grandvalira you have a 200km of connected piste which you dont get in Livigno.

Soldeu town is more compact than Livigno which is very spread out. Like 10 min walk in -15c between different pubs isnt much fun.

Both resorts have long transfers so I wouldnt let that sway your decision. And as a previous post said Soldeu can be a bit one sided male/female but lets face it most ski resorts are. They do call it Mandorra after all!!

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Livigno but if I had a choice I would go back to Soldeu.

Livigno for me. Better choice of restaurants and bars. I found Soldeau a bit boring. Local slopes are crap and weather was too bad to ge to the connecting slopes. Livigno you will have covered by the Thursday but good slopes none the less.

If you are going to Italy try Val de Fassa. A hidden gem in the Dolomites. I was in a crappy town but there are 4 or 5 others that are better. Cheap place to go and the choice of skiing is amazing.

That's a very good point actually, especially if your going early season.

Can't help but think that if you've been to the best, namely the 3 valleys, you're going to be a bit underwelmed with both of these choices, tbh. Their reds(and the one black in Livigno) would almost all be blues in the 3V's. Besides, I thought Andorra was trying to move upmarket and now is on par pricewise with most other resorts. A lot of the Italian or Austrian resorts are just as economical as these resorts and have more to offer.

    Hi All,

Thanks for the very useful information. Granted after sking 3 Valleys over the past two years it will be difficult to find a comparitive resort! however with our budget restraints we will need to compromise :-)

We have booked Livigno.... I think we have go a good deal Flights,Accomadation, private airport Tranfer, ski pass, ski hire for €645 per person. Staying in the San Rocco area.

If you have any feedback on the area - tips ect that would be great or if you have any links to web sites with livigno info also great.

    Thanks again

    Tips :

Duty free so if u need to buy ski's, cameras etc ...
Think your lift pass covers u for one day skiing in St Moritz (Switz). There is a bus service or the tour ops can organise
4.5 hr transfer, bring a neck cushion
If u are going Jan, can be as low as -25 in the mornings, although if you find you need any more layers, better gloves etc can be picked up over there at reasonable prices
    Costaccia area quitest pistes
