Not sure if this is the right forum to post this in but anyway...

I'm a 6th year student and thinking of doing this course next year http://www.gcd.ie/index.jsp?1nID=108&2nID=124&3nID=124&nID=221&aID=263

I see its only 245 points last year, is this due to the fees? I know I would just miss out on the points required for DCU etc, but is this basically the same type of course and can anyone explain why the points are significantly lower? Is it the fees?

    Thanks

Yes, the points for Griffith have always been lower due to fees. CAO works on a demand basis...so for a non-fee paying college the media course would be in high demand as it's a popular course. However when people are asked to pay fees they don't apply as much and the CAO points drop for that course.

The course in Griffith is accredited by HETAC, however DCU would be a University degree which would be accredited by DCU itself. Insititutes of Technology and several other institutes are accredited by HETAC. The courses would be simular in some ways but not in others. Ultimately a University degree would probably be a bit more pretigious than a HETAC one though.

The Griffith course is good though. Very hands on. You run a radio station and produce student papers amongst other things.

I studied that course at Griffith and I really enjoyed my three years. They are good in that area, we won most competitions in Ireland, many more than any other university/college in the country so do not worry about studying in a college accredited by HETAC like Griffith. In the end it is you who make your career good or not, the university won't give you any advantages on that respect. If you are talented then it doesn't matter if you come from Trinity or Griffith or DIT.
