Why is it so hard?

    Hey all.

We've decided I'm the one to look for a venue, as I'm in the game myself, and I'm still mooching around, and haven't come up with anything yet.

Looking for something a bit cool, a bit cheap (This I can work on, gift of the gab and knowing people) and fun.

We really don't have a huge budget, but as usual with me its Champagne Lifestyle on Lemonade Money. We've ruled out Cabra Castle (Not really the style we want, although it is nice), the Cavan Crystal (again, I'm just not pushed on it), anywhere in Monaghan (I'm from Monaghan and have a real aversion to it!), Killyhevlin in Enniskillen (Arseholey wedding pack just turned us right off!)

Has anyone ever been at a function at Dundalk Stadium? I'm hopefully going to view it on Tuesday with Her Indoors.

Also on my list to see is Jacksons Hotel in Ballybofey, Mill Park Hotel in Donegal and thats really about it.

    Any other ideas?

Who knew this could be so bloody hard

I would recommend the Errigal Hotel in Cootehill.
We were at a wedding there a couple of weeks ago and were amazed!

You can download their wedding brochure from their website and the packages arent half bad - glass of house wine in dinner package, complementary corkage, complementary bar extention - where could you go wrong.

Plus they've recently opened their new extention which caters especially for weddings, when you arrive its where the tea/coffee is served... their plenty of seating and a bar.

I found that the food was oh so tasty, prompt coming and plenty of it. The bar staff were friendly and super, and the drink wasnt astronomical prices.

Have a look at their website and see what you think, but I definitely think that were I'd be having mine :D

I have to say its a nice spot the Errigal, BUT Her Indoors' brother (and at least 2 of her aunties) had their reception there 2 (or was it 3) years ago.

Thats whats leaning me away from it.

I'm liking the idea of Dundalk Stadium, but I can't find any reviews of any weddings there.

I know but the Errigal has changed so much since the new extention!

Havent heard any reports from a wedding in the Dundalk Stadium but I must ask around and see if anyone has been there for that

We got offered an amazingly good wedding package in a hotel in the west of Ireland. You wouldn't believe the extras. Basicially everything you could possibly want (including 2 cars) for a great price.

Now, we are living in Kildare, and so while impressed, we weren't too sure. Until we visited. The manager was brilliant with a wedding that was going on that weekend, the staff were so friendly and efficient. We had a lovely weekend, even down to a manager bringing us for a drive around the area to show us local beauty spots. We went to book out and everything had been taken care of. And best of all, a train goes from dublin to a local station and the hotel offers a complementary bus to the station.

We were planning on going abroad, but for the price we were offered there, we're happy to stay in Ireland.

Go for it! We're having ours in a function room of a sports club. Decorate your room, get good catering (buffet makes it cheaper so you can give better food) and a brilliant band. If you do this it doesn't matter where you have it!

Dunno about the size of your party but Coxtown Manor in Donegal is a lovely spot. It's not a snobby/uncomfortable manor house - quite the opposite given the relaxed Beligian owner. Food is pretty decent too and there's lovely rooms to stay in
