    Got a new board and I am looking to get it waxed somewhere before I head out on my boarding trip, can anyone recommend anywhere to get your board waxed? Spent alot on the board so would rather get it done right than attempt it myself. If I dont get it done before I go I will have to get it done over so would be without the board for the first day, any suggestions greatly recieved, thanks!

    You could board on it the first day and that evening leave it in for an overnight service. Great outdoors used to do it, not sure anymore.

    I can't imagine it would take a day if you were only looking to get it waxed and the factory wax will easily serve you for a single day.

    When you get to the resort just leave it in somewhere overnight to get the service if needed, will probably be cheaper anyway. Not really needed though if its brand new, although you might just notice a difference if you get it done part way through the week once you've been on it for a bit already.

    Factory wax will be good for one, or two days riding max. The reason behind this is that the factory wax job was done at least several months before you'll get to ride it and then has been stored in a dry environment ever since (shop floor/stock room).

    If your board has a sintered base, rather than an extruded base, it will need more waxing. A sintered base is softer and absorbs more wax than an extruded base. Generally I recommend waxing every 2-4 times you ride it.

    You will be perfectly fine to ride the board for the first two days, and then wax it (or drop it into a shop overnight to get it waxed).

    As far as waxing goes, you really should learn to do it yourself. It's very easy, and pretty cheap. All you need is

    * A stick of All Temp wax - wax comes in different temp ranges. Cold/warm/slush etc. All Temp is the all purpose wax, and unless you're riding slush, is all you need Cost: about €13-15. (Note: Rub on wax is just plain rubbish, don't waste your time. Hot waxing is where it's at.)

    * Iron - Any old iron will do really, just don't use your mum's iron as it'll get covered in wax. There are purpose built waxing irons that you can buy, but you really don't need to shell out €60 for one. Any old travel iron will do.

    * Wax Scraper - This is just a plastic piece of perspex (note: don't use a metal scraper to scrape wax). Cost: roughly €5

    * Scotch-brite pad/ horsehair brush.

    There are some good instructional videos on you tube that will show you how to wax.

    You specifically want one that DOES NOT have any steam holes in the base of it, needs to have a flat base.

    Cheers lads I think I will go ahead and board on factory wax for the first day or 2 and then drop it in to have it done overnight. We dont get to the resort til almost midnight hence I couldnt get it waxed overnight initially. Cheers for all the replies.
