Closing ports while using BitTorrent

    Hi

Im using BitTorrent alongside Comodo firewall. I can download torrents ok but in order to do this comodo firewall allows a lot of ports full access to BitTorrent. Like at least 200 ports for connectivity-does BitTorrent need all these ports to be open?- Or can i make do with a few select ports?

Set up only one port for bittorrent to use. As for open ports unless you've got some special router firewall rule (or dmz ) set up you should be fine. Any incomming connections will be blocked there. As for multiple ports? doesn't matter if bit torrent takes 1 or a million as long as bit torrent is the only one listening... the problem though is if it isn't listening one day and something sets up camp in its place.

Yeh I have a hardware firewall that only allows inbound traffic If i willingly start this traffic myself. All other inbound attempts from the internet to my laptop are blocked if i don't initiate this traffic.

Ive tried reducing the number of ports that my software firewall opens for Bittorrent but now i am getting slower speeds...does having ports open on 'listen' as you said pose a security risk? Can I get hacked this way?
