I have always had a dream that one day someone out there would take me for a rip in a helicopter. I dont know anyone that has one and never could afford to go on a chartered trip. Perhaps someone might see this post and might be able to fullfill that dream of mine.

You can book a trial lesson in one for 20/30/60 minutes out at weston.

The trial flights/lessons are still pretty expensive. I presume you are in Galway from the location on your profile. At the clifden airshow, executive helicopters do trips. I did it last year, it was €50 for a ten minute trip over the bay. It sounds very expensive, and it is, but it was the best €50 I ever spent. Great experience and great to be able to say you went for a whirl in a helicopter because it is a unique experience. So try the clifden airshow next year, its a good day out anyway, and you may be able to realise your dream!

All the helicopter owners in Galway are broke and their helicopters are for sale. So I wouldn't get your hopes up. Save up your pennies and buy an hour or two. It's the only way.

thedragon, you're about two years too late looking for a free 'rip' in a heli. Have you noticed how quiet the skies are for the past year? If yer really interested, get down to oranmore, pay the couple of quid, there are still a few rav2s knocking around there.

Just on a little rant and slightly off topic.. I know of a guy who bought a brand new Agusta 109 Grand in 2006 for €7.2m. Its up for sale at the moment with 600 hours on it for €3.8m....!! Will still cost about €2500 per hour to run though....

You could set out for the states in a small dingy you bought in Lidl, wait for the inevitable leak and hope that someone calls out the coastguard :D.
