Very interesting project by Researchers from Georgia Tech, they have developed methods to take real-time, real-world information and layer it onto Google Earth, adding dynamic information to the previously sterile Googlescape.

This would be a fantastic tool, utilising all the security and traffic cameras in the world. Fantastic work, but big brother is watching!!

Cool, they're basically embedding web-cam streams.
Surprised Google haven't already done this with Google Earth.

I think the closest we've gotten so far is 'real-time' traffic updates on Google Maps...

    See here for an example.

I wonder how much bandwidth something like this would take on Google Maps? It would be really cool but privacy issues may also cause problems.

EDIT: Also, as much as it pains me, I think this is better off in the Google Earth forum. I'll move with a redirect.

I'm sorry completely forgot we had a Google earth forum.

I agree the bandwidth would be huge, but I would say this would certainly be limited to public areas if it ever came into use. This may also answer the privacy questions, public area etc. But from the models it looks like it makes generic cars and human models making it difficult to know who is who.

Bandwidth wouldn't be an issue. The webcams stream all day and night from there respective site's.Google won't be streaming anything.
