Flash for text headings

Why do some websites use Flash movies to display headings rather than use the HTML header tags?

The only logical place I've seen it used was the Volvo Ocean Race website where they had a custom font for all headings.

But I've noticed on the 3 website, three.ie, they use Flash headings for no real reason. Yeah it allows them to have their chosen font be consistent over all operating systems, but is it really worth it?

Probably not, considering the importance of h1 tags to search engine results.

But then, lots of "designers" don't even know how the web works.

by flash do you mean an actual flash movie? or an image replacement technique like sifr? Sifr will display a custom font as flash, but still use H1 tags

A quick look at three.ie's source code reveals:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="../js/sifr.js"></script>

So they're using sifr; replacing the text of the h1 font (already recognised with search engines) with Flash (when the viewer accesses the site in a browser).
