Wow, they are up alright. Still a very good bike but I think this hands the title of "best budget buy" to the Planet X.

    1700 euro for a 105 Cayo compact!

    €1700 for a cayo

and i dont think it looks as nice, a BB30 bottom bracket, ribble sportive and planet x looking great value in comparison
guess they'll sell at a 10% discount but pushed themselves a long way out of the bike to work bracket

    down to sterling weakness ?

Focus ride in the pro ranks with milram. Not done so well but a 2010 focus must have an edge on a planet x bike or a ribble bike, just for that reason alone.Buying on the internet is not a good idea for a starter.Thought I could get a 54 cayo to fit my 5 foot 9 and 1/4 frame but its not ideal. If you are an experienced bike rider and know your geomentries you will find great bike.If not you will suffer stiffness and heartake:(:( proberly have to sell my cayo it breaks my heart.

54cm sounds about right for you 5' 9"1/4 frame. Do you have very long arms or what:confused:

Must have ,I now use a 120mm stem I have a 130mm stem and thinking about using it tomorrow, looks ridiculous. It just feels to cramped everone thinks the bike is to small.I really like the bike if the 130mm stem does not work well i got to let it go f*ck it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,510 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

I ride a 54cm frame (geometry might be slightly different) and a 120mm stem. It is a bit more stretched out than my commuter say, but it is far more comfortable and easier to adopt a more aggressive position.

I have changed my setup an awful lot over the year I have had it. What is your setup like? Do you sit up tall and hold the hoods or do you like to adopt a more racy position?

I sit on the hoods alot,a few months ago a got a fsa compact handlebar.Going to change that tomorrow as well.Must admit since i changed to the compact handlebars it seems to have made the cramped poisition worse.Hopefully I can get this right, thanks for your support DirkVoodoo.Racy I am not maybe I could put the saddle back 5mm.

That seems a pretty relaxed fit Dirkvoodoo, might have to consider a similar size as I think we are about same height 5' 7" ? and I'm ahem cough, a few years older and not as flexible!. I ride a 52cm frame and a 110 stem. The standard bike came with a 90 which was too short.

@ horizon26, why do you think the 130 will look out of place? I'm sure you played around with the saddle etc. However no point in suffering a bike if it doesn't feel comfortable. Should be able to sell the bike at a small reduction so not the end of the world.

Def change the handlebars as wider stance will allow better stretch, and if moving saddle back be careful that front of knee is just about over the spindle of the pedal.

thanks sy ,I just find it so fustrating to come back after a spin and feel I have to cut it short. My arms feel cramped and I am not getting the most out of the bike.

Yeah I'm still too upright, I need to work on my flexibility big time over the winter. I've even made more adjustments now with slightly narrower bars with a funny profile. More stretched out if I ride on the hoods but a shallower drop so its easier for me to maintain that position. Also got a zero setback seatpost because I was sliding too far forward with a 23mm setback. I'm hoping that these changes don't make me even more upright, which is how it sounds, but an initial test run seemed promising. I think my problem is all flexibility and not really the setup.

Your frame might be too big? Can't remember if the Ridley has an aggressive geometry or more sportive like?

By the way those wheels look like a real bargain;). Notice the Easton EA 90SLX's 2008 model are on sale for €418 at chainreaction. Would suit your weight etc and campag available!

I always suspected the frame was *slightly* too big for me, but it would be a very small fraction. The Ridley is semi-compact I guess, it's a 54cm "Medium". The effective top tube is given as 55cm and a 53cm (c-t) seat tube length. The effective top tube length for my dispatch is 54.5cm with a shorter stem too (I think it's a 100mm stem). It feels fine for commuting but it's a bit too compressed for longer spins.

Like I said, flexibility...just need to be able to stretch further on the Ridley, hopefully in time for next year :)

EDIT: Also tempted by the Eastons, but if my credit card clears and the Ksyriums are still in stock, I am going to get them!

Nothing wrong with a 130mm stem, I'm using one at the moment too. It's a bit unusual on a 54cm bike though.

Don't sell the bike yet, you'll lose loads and you may be misdiagnosing your problems.

Your "cramped arms" might be a symptom of something else. For instance, you may be trying to cycle with arms too straight because you lack the fitness to hold yourself properly on the bike as it is currently set up.

If you want to fix this yourself, the first thing I'd try is more saddle setback (with a lower saddle to compensate) and higher handlebars (e.g. flip the stem). These changes will unload your upper body and may help to reduce arm fatigue.

But since you're at the stage of throwing money at a new bike, I'd start with a professional bike fit.

that cant be right last years was 8.6kg (and mines pretty close with pedals and cages)

and that looks like the 2009 frame although with 2010 forks , what the hell are cole rullen wheels must weigh a ton

    i'd steer clear
no weights on the 2010 model anywhere hmmm i think focus may have killed the golden goose see their sales plummet next year

Indeed, my 58cm 2008 Triple (with Ultegra/105 mix) was 8.4kg without pedals.
