96 Escort immobiliser problem

Hi, Just wondering if anyone knows how to fix this.

Ive just fitted a new indictator/headlight switch, and now when i try to turn on the car my immobiliser light keeps flashing for a minute, then flashes 3 times intermitently after that and the engine wont start. Ive tried my normal key and the red master key and neither can start the engine.

All i did was: disconnect the battery, remove the steering column facia, reomve the old swtich, reconnect and fit the new one, re-fit the facia then re-connect the battery.

I thought i'd save a few quid doing this myself, now do I have to get the keys re-programmed?

Its a 1996 Ford Escort, 1.4ltr hatchback. No central locking, and they keys are just your normal ones with no buttons on or anything.

Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

Maybe try your nearest Ford garage. One of the mechanic would have come across this problem i'm sure.
Just walk in and chat to them.

I have heard of immobilisers causing problems when the battery is disconnected and reconnected. It may have been a security feature I dont know.

On older cars the immobilisers normally came with a key do they not? Could you turn it off?

Did you put back on the key reader around the ign barrel? or else it sounds like it's become disconnected while the light switch was being replaced. Surely to much of a coinsidence to say you were at that area and now the immobiliser is giving trouble.

    Hi, thanks for the replies.

Took your advice Danny and disconnected the battery and double checked I hadn't knocked any of the wires out...always worth doing the obvious, i just hadnt thought of that! Just made sure and leads etc were pushed in tight and it works fine now. There didnt seem to be anything disconnected but its working now so im off to get the NCT.

    Thanks
