Mrs Roadpounder going to NY in November, asked her nicely:D, for the 305, well it is my birthday! My question is the AC Charger that comes with the watch in the states will be (I presume) different to our charger here in Ireland. I presume I can get one of those adapter thing a majiggy at local electrical store. Hate to think she would bring me home something that wouldn't charge here.
Would love to have it for DCM, but a lot cheaper in the US. Only problem is what this trip is going to cost me when the visa bill comes in the door in December:eek:

I didn't know you can get a mains charger for it. Mine charges off the laptop and I ordered mine from a seller off ebay in the US.

Just copied and pasted this from the website in the states

    What's Included

[Garmin Forerunner 305 >GPS USB cable >AC charger Heart rate monitor <Docking cradle > Garmin Training Center software CD-ROM Expander strap >
    Owner's manual

if it charges from laptop/desktop computer, its not a problem then. Things are lookng up

If it's charging from USB like the 405 as well then you can either just plug it into the nearest laptop or you can get the mains->USB power adapters in any computery type store over here.

Can I ask a question on this please?
Is this gadget able to track your distance and what pace you are running at, without a footpod/heart rate monitor.
From what I understand, this is what the forerunner 405 watch does, or am I totally incorrect?

Yes and yes. Here's an example of the kind of data you get.

The 305 is able to track dist and pace without a pod. You'll need a chest strap for the HRM. The 305 is about 4 years old now, while the 405 is out about a year.

The 405 is more "watch" like, the 305 is fairly bulky. Buddy of mine just got the 310XT and I have to admit it's soooo nice. Must keep telling myslef "You have a GPS already!"

You are right on all accounts except being incorrect :D There are a couple of threads on both the 405 and 305. Just saying, not being smart.

    Thanks krust happy and floyd.
Sorry if im being silly but is it possible to glance at the watch mid run and check what distance you have run, and what your current speed/pace is?
Or do you wait til you load it up to your PC to review?

    Thanks

Yes, you can glance at it, and get your distance, time, pace, heart rate, elevation, etc. Generally, most people will have just two or thee bits of data on the screen at the time, as it's difficult to focus on too much info.

I have one screen for when I'm running, that has pace, distance covered and heart rate. I have a different screen on the bike, for distance covered, speed, and time.

I use 4 fields on my 305 screen. An average pace, current pace, Distance and time. Such a great toy, I love it.

    STOP

Why would you buy the 305 when the 310XT was release two months ago. Its a direct replacement with upgraded features?

As for charging several people I know just use a blackberry charger etc ,, you can read that as a USB charger which plugins into the mains. It should be easy enough to pick one up from maplin etc.

Don't forget to pay the duty on the way back :)

Because if you don't want to swim or run for >marathon time it's pretty much the same features for half the price, maybe? Pass GO and collect $200.

(Speaking as a not-yet Garmin user who's probably waiting for a hypothetical 410xt (extra 310xt features in 405 form factor). Don't google this model, I just made it up).

Cheers all, thanks for the heads up. As regards the 310X, dont really need the waterproof element, plan to stay on dry land:).

+1 on this. I borrowed my mates 310XT for a run on Wednesday and was very impressed with it. Felt more comfortable and looks better than the 305. I then went to the Garmin site and did a compare with the 305 - damn all differences for the extra cost. Will stay with my trusty 305 for the time being. :)

Was using my 305 in the bike yesterday and lost sats (first time in two years it's done that), so I'm guessing it's about to fail and I'll just HAVE to get a new one. :D
