Have one coming up, no relation of mine but going with my gf who is a distant relation of the party being married. It is the afters but I'm torn, should I wear a suit (maybe without tie as its afters) or simply dress smart casual (e.g. nice shirt, white pants, black shoes)? Thoughts anyone? Thanks :) I don't want to be under or over dressed!

a suit is definitely preferable to white pants. Wear a shirt that can be worn with or without the tie.

Definitely no need for a suit. Smart casual is fine. Really, most people wear whatever they would wear on a regular night out. That could be jeans and a shirt. Tbh it doesn't really matter what you wear as long as you don't look scruffy :D

Lol two opposing answers ... thanks though. Ahm I'm kind of leaning towards smart casual though ... really don't know. Maybe I should go as Mr. Peanut, white suit, monocle, cane ;)

Actually I never noticed the 'white pants' bit. Definitely don't wear these :p

Unless it's a black tie or very formal wedding then I wouldn't wear a suit. Most of the men who have been at the wedding will have taken their jackets off before dinner and their ties off after so you would be the odd one out!

Well they're not white pants, as in cargo pants erm dockers that's the word I'm looking for, almost yellow rather than white. No good lol?

Oh dear god he wants to wear yellow pants to a wedding :pac:

Beige perhaps? Chinos? beige is good. We can do beige. But they'd be better with brown shoes me thinks ;)

Unfortunately, no, not for a wedding. A dress pair of pants (i.e. proper pants) and a smart shirt will see you through here with a good belt and polished shoes.

You don't have to wear a suit, but make sure that whatever you do wear is clean, pressed and/or polished.

I dont think a full suit is necessary, just a suit pants, short sleeve shirt if you prefer, no tie, black shoes. :)

    Hope this helps!

for the love of god don't wear a short sleeve shirt!

I stick with the suit and a shirt that can be worn without a tie, you then just remove the jacket if you feel too dressed up.

Well, had a very enjoyable if drunken night! Thanks to all for responses. In end I played it safe and wore suit pants and shirt and blended right in. I would have looked a bit of a tosser in comparison to others if I'd worn my Bertie outfit so good thing I didn't. Cheers!
