mmm, i'd say there have been some, but they would all have been within a week or so of purchase and certainly well within the warranty for a free repair/replacement.

kind of pointless this, its like wondering if a truck is going to plough through your front wall while ur playing your ps, there's always a chance it could happen. at least ur ps3 is covered by warranty.
there may be some somewhere which have gone yellow lights, has no real relationship to whether the one u buy or not will. keep searching the net though if you're that worried, its only people who have had problems that will be posting up issues, the rest will be too busy enjoying playing their new console

I'd better not do X in case Y happens.*

    * As a result nothing would ever get done.

It's a non-issue. Manufacturers are now very conscious of avoiding these types of these of issues. It really dents into their bottom-line.

Sure, like any piece of equipment individual units will fail - but don't expect mass failures like what other consoles suffered from in the past.

The good thing is if you buy one in GAME then you get the option of another years warranty for only an extra €25. Well worth it if you think it might fail on you.

And the best thing about the extra warranty is you don't have to buy it straight away

Its probably a good endorsement from GAME if they are doing console insurance for 3 years for 25 quid (as they probably expect very few to fail and make a killing of course). That being said though, a major retailer in the US (gamestop I think) did that with the 360 before the rrod problem became apparent and got absolutly screwed.

3 years? An extra year would make it 2 years surely, assuming they add the year onto the manufacturers standard warranty.
