Magnet has noticed on Boards.ie, and from gamers anecdotally, that online gaming in Ireland has been hampered by crippling pings and distant servers. We therefore decided to develop a service for gamers that will give online gaming in Ireland a shot in the arm. When we started on the idea we thought it crucial to go out to you guys and see precisely what it is you needed to get the most out of your consoles and PCs, and give you an edge when competing online

The service came about with help of 120 Boards.ie members so it is something we’ve built with you for you. It’s called Magnet Bolt and consists of all the following: 12Mb broadband with 1:1 contention, a high quality Telsey gaming router, traffic prioritisation to popular gaming servers and personal individual tuning of your internet line to remove jarring and sluggish responsiveness from online games. .

Bolt will give ping times as low as 16ms, as opposed to the average of 194ms many of you may be suffering from. In addition to this, latency is a quarter of the Irish average and data traffic to leading game servers will be routed as directly as possible through our network.

Magnet Bolt subscribers will have their internet line personally tuned by a Magnet engineer to increase performance for gaming. We’ve priced it at €64.99, €10 above our €55.46 10 Mb product, because it’s a tailored service and requires “feet on the street” so to speak. That’s until the end of October, and then we revert to the standard price of €69.99.

We’re pretty excited by Magnet Bolt and we’ve found that any hardcore gamers we’ve told about the service are pretty keen to know more. Our Boards.ie forum is here (LINK: http://www.boards.ie/magnet) and we will be answering any questions you might have on Bolt.
