Is anyone else having problems setting up their wifi in Trinity this year? For me on Windows, I can connect to TCDwifi alright but the browser page never re-directs. Nothing loads. I tried it with IE, Firefox and Chrome.

I also have Ubuntu on my laptop and when I tried with that, the browser re-directed straight away. So I'm using Ubuntu for my internet at the moment.

I could be waiting forever down at ISS, so does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

Also, I just brought in that software checker program on a memory stick (the one that checks your anti-virus etc) and tried to run it on windows but it said it could not find policy.

AFAIK the CSA needs to be run within n number of minutes from when it was downloaded, that's what the policy error is about.

Sounds like you're missing a proxy to me... Can you access tcd.ie in the browser?

This happened to me; my computer never downloaded the ISS PAC file. Just enter tcdproxy.tcd.ie (8080) as your HTTP and HTTPS proxies.

Having trouble myself as well, had trouble last year as well, I reckon I'll have to try ISS soon because there's so many things I've tried at this stage I'm pure sick of it!

    Nope, can't access tcd.ie

Where am I supposed to enter that? I already have the whole proxypac.tcd.ie etc stuff in Firefox and that isn't working.

Oh and while I'm here, does anyone know how to get aMSN or pidgin to work on the TCD wifi? They both keep saying that they can't connect with server or something

    COMPSCIwireless is postgrad/staff only
COMPSCIwireless2 is available to undergrads, but I'm not sure from what year (I certainly had it in 4th year, can't remember if I had it in 3rd)

I'm getting all kinds of crap trying to connect the lappy to the network this year. I'm missing out on seeing people's shared iTunes collections in the library. Found a guy last year with the entire Offspring and Bloodhound Gang discographies ready to stream. Assuming I wasn't connected with a 14-year-old boy from about 1999-2001, that kind of fact is both terrifying and endeering.

    Original prankster.

Its actually just awful trying to connect this year! I am raging with all these changes! I went in last week with my macbook to Iss services hoping they would wave their majic fingers! Alas apprently my software isn't the right software and they told me to buy snow leopard! Seriously how could it connect just four months ago and now it won't! Anyone else told this and have 10.5.8 Leopard!?

I'm on Snow Leopard and set it up there with the little booklet last week. It took a while to do, but I eventually got on. But now when I try again it won't work...I thought once you got on once it'd just mean throwing in your password after that, but it's not working for me...just has that white page with network not found or something...I think it's all just overcomplicated, no idea what the ISS are thinking. You should just have one password for everything, and should just need to enter that password on WPA enterprise to use the internet.

On leopard (10.5.8) and having the same issue, I have to get it working again every time I connect.
I've found deleting the keychain for the trinity wifi usually makes it work

Finally had a go at getting the lappy on the network after much laziness. Turns out they won't let you choose your DNS address. Nice to know.

Now, hours in the library on facebook......

Thanks, I'll try that next time. Spent ages today with absolutely no joy, kept saying authenticating for ages, and that's as far as I'd get...

    Hey Marko!
You have to use your TCD username and password in msn options,if someone already replied, I got bored reading the replies

Not strictly Wifi-related, but could anyone tell me how the media sharing works? My laptop keeps "finding" WMP libraries but I don't know how to access their stuff.

Oh wait I remember last year I had to change something in the DNS settings and then it worked. What was changed? Do you just set it on automatic or something?

Hey there! Yeah for normal MSN I already had my password in for that but it's not working... probably the same reason why the internet isn't working on Windows yet for me. So I was just trying to get aMSN or Pidgin to work on Ubuntu

Finally sorted mine out, problem seemed to be that I had to change my password, even though I was never told to, I changed it on the college computers, and then when I tried the internet again it worked perfectly. Yaay!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,536 ✭✭✭Mark200

Yeah I sorted mine on Friday! Turned out that I had to set my DNS settings to automatic, because for internet at home I had to put some stuff in there so it'd connect.
