Who wrote 'Starmaker'?

01-10-2009 02:03PM#1The release of the new Fame movie got us talking about the original TV show from the 80's so I was getting quite nostalgic there looking at some old clips on You Tube
Anyway, I'm just wondering does anyone know who wrote the song 'Starmaker' which was sung by the Fame cast? And what was it about? In the show it was sung to a teacher who was leaving, but the lyrics are kind of strange (see below) and don't quite fit the scene when you think about it.
So I was just wondering was it written for the show or just used for that scene?
Anyone know?
