There's a completed listing for an N97 on ebay .. or was it an N95.. one of those, in the last week or so got to €1,665.

Obviously the winning bidder had no intention of buying.

I see 3 of the 4 bidders are no longer registered users. Don't see the point in this myself. Is it to wind up a seller, or was the seller in on the scheme too (whatever type scheme, I dunno)?

probably just messers pushing up the price, idiots who got their hands on (presumably other people's) ebay accounts trying to wind up the seller

basically when you sell a phone on ebay have a minimum 2 or 3 positive feedback requirement, that will weed out most of the messers, nigerians and the like

Yeah I've often had to relist items due to scammers and timewasters. I'd expect this is just someone winding up the seller, wasting valuable time and money.

Moved from Mobiles/PDAs. More suited here, I think.

Does ebay have any policy in this? I do use ebay a bit, never sold anything though. But obviously you have to pay to place an item for sale.

Does ebay have a facility for refunds to be made to sellers when their auction ends up being a p1sstake because of Jackass' like that?

Non paying bidder, and the fees are credited back to the seller.

Strange that there were 4 different bidders, all way too high, it would only take one to mess up the auction, why the extra hassle. The person previously sold an item and got neutral feedback, I doubt that person is doing it, but I could imagine it would sometimes be the case.

I think it is now free to place basic auctions on ebay.ie , but yes you are meant to be refunded if you paid extra. I had put an item up and had to close the auction since I sold to a mate. It was very easy to do. If there are 12 hours left in the auction and people have bidded it is a problem. You are supposed to offer to the highest bidder at the time.

I figured out I could have a mate shill bid so he was the highest bidder, then you could cancel the auction and be obliged to sell to him, but then both fill out the ebay form to mutually agree not to sell, so no fees on the basic auction.

I pulled with days to go so had no trouble, the auction does appear to have finished with no bids though, and there were bidders. I have now breathed a sigh of relief since I often look at completed listings and regularly see auctions that finished with no bids and was pissed off that I had missed out, but I expect they were all closed early.

So if a person paid for a fancy auction with all the extras and it was not going well they could get sign up and shill their own auction with stupid prices and then get those fees refunded.
