    Hi folks,
    Anybody ran this- http://www.lisbon-marathon.com/index.html
(Te-hee you thought it was a political question:D)

I may have to pull out of DCM with a shin problem but really don't want to let all the training go to waste as apart form the shin I feel really good at the mo and would be terribly disappointed to miss Dublin so getting an alternative would ease the pain so to speak. Is there any other Nov/Dec marathons that people who miss out on Dublin through injury/illness could target?

I really enjoyed the Lisbon half-ironman that I did last year. 4:11 happy days.

I've not done the lisbon marathon but the feedback on it is always very bad (from organisational point of view). Have you looked at Luton (boring but close) or la Rochelle (the week before).

I wouldn't recommend Lisbon. The course is really boring.
You run out along the rive/quays then back the way you came. Then up through town, a long enough hill, and back down to the quays again.
This time run along the quays in the other direction and back in again.
Then out the way you went at the start and back in again to the finish.
All in all a fairly boring marathon but if they ran through the city it would be very boring.

I did it two years ago so maybe they have changed the course since but as the city is on a hill they haven't much scope for change.
Organisation was good though and the city itself is lovely. Everybody drives like a lunatic though.
Weather was fairly mild. Temp around 16/17 degrees I think.

Florence is on around then too I think.

Thanks folks, I'll look into those suggestions. hopefully my shin improves in time for Dublin and I won't need to look further a field for alternatives.

Does anyone know anything about the La Rochelle marathon. Any feedback or reports. Is anyone interested in doing it this year? I am struggling with back pain so If I don't line up for Dublin La Rochelle might be an option.

I'm in the same situation, and have signed up for Florence marathon on 29th November. It's flat and fast, seems to be well run, scenic location and there's pacers. Flights to bologna cost €6 return when I booked them two weeks ago ( plus another million in taxes etc). Florence is about an hour away by train.
