I am looking for some advice on the septic tank for my new house. I'm at the stage where I am ready go go out and get some prices for it. I have posted the condition in my planning for the septic tank below. From this condition can anyone tell me what type of septic tank I will need and where I should contact to look for prices???

Any advice/information/bargains/horror stories would be appreciated.

""A proprietary treatment system certified by the Irish Agreement Board, and installed to the manufacturer’s instructions, shall be utilised for the purposes of domestic effluent disposal. A polishing filter system shall be used in conjunction with the proprietary treatment system and shall be designed in accordance with the procedures outlined in Section 4.11 of the Environmental Protections Agency Wastewater Treatment Manual ‘Treatment Systems for Single Houses’ 2000. The septic tank drainage system shall otherwise comply with Environmental Protections Agency Wastewater Treatment Manual ‘Treatment Systems for Single Houses’ 2000.""

You need a treatment unit, there are a number of them available ranging in cost for 2.5k to 6 or 7K. Most will replace the septic tank but others require a standard pre cast concrete tank too.

There's nothing there to replace. Can you give me any names of places that I could approach for prices? Or websites?

Relig you misunderstand me, most treatment units don't require a septic tank because of the way they process the waste, one in particular does still require a septic tank and the unit. I cannont mention names and brands here as it is in breach of the charter but try googling "sewage treatment units" and click the Ireland button and you should get a few manufacturers.

Personally I tend to sepcify the one that still requires the sepic tank as it is more passive that the other systems. It is made by the same people who provide turf briquetts and cost around 4.5k.

As long as they are installed correctly and are looked after they are all much of a muchness although some do have more parts to go wrong. What was put in your planning application by your agent?

If your agent got your site characterisation tests carried out, it is likely there is a system specified based on your specific site conditions. If this is the case you would be well advised to speak to your agent or whoever will be signing off the works.

Any or all names by PM only, thank you.

    Thanks Guys,

I'll talk to the agent. He did the percolation test but told me that the septic tank/treatment system that I put in will be dependent on what was stated in my planning conditions. He's a bit "high filouting" at times so I thought it might be good to know what I was talking about before I went back to him.

    Thanks again.

    Dan
